Key takeaways

  • 1Selling is free: Vinted’s help pages say there are no fees for uploading or selling, and you receive the full price in your Vinted Wallet (Balance in the UK). The buyer pays shipping and a Buyer Protection fee.
  • 2List in six steps: up to 20 photos, a title and description, category and brand, condition, price and parcel size. Ship with the buyer’s prepaid label within 5 business days; the money is available within 2 days of the order completing.
  • 3Buyers want proof and fit: the whole item first, the brand tag, every flaw, and a worn photo. Vinted’s rules ask for photos you take yourself, so the worn shot is a mirror photo or a friend wearing it.

How to sell on Vinted: the short answer

The short answer

Photograph the item, list it free in six steps (up to 20 photos, a title and description, category and brand, condition, price and parcel size) and wait for a buyer. The buyer pays shipping and a Buyer Protection fee; you send the parcel with the prepaid label within 5 business days, and the money lands in your Vinted Wallet within 2 days of the order completing.

That is how to sell on Vinted in one paragraph. Selling well is about what shoppers filter for: brand, size, condition, price, and photos that prove all four. Every fee and rule below comes from Vinted’s own pages, linked, with the US and UK shown where they differ.

What does it cost to sell on Vinted? Vinted fees explained

The short answer

Nothing on your side. Vinted’s help page says “There are no fees for uploading your items or selling them on Vinted.” The buyer pays shipping and a Buyer Protection fee at checkout: usually 5% + $0.70 in the US, and usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80 in the UK.

CostWho paysWhat Vinted’s pages say
Listing an itemNobodyFree; list as many items as you like.
Selling feeNobodyNone: “you’ll receive the full selling price straight to your Vinted Wallet.”
Buyer Protection feeThe buyerEvery order, at checkout. US: usually 5% + $0.70. UK: usually 3% to 8% + £0.30 to £0.80, VAT included.
ShippingThe buyerPaid at checkout; you get a prepaid label or QR code.
Bump, Showcase (Wardrobe Spotlight)You, optionallyPaid promotions; the price shows at checkout, not on the help pages.
Item VerificationThe buyerOptional, eligible designer listings only. £10 per item in the UK; not offered in the US.

The line is the same on the US page and the UK page, and the how it works page adds “You keep 100% of what you earn.” The Buyer Protection fee varies with the item, the order value and whether it is a bundle; the US fee page and the UK fee page give the ranges. Fees change: check them before you price.

The fee buys the cover that makes shoppers pay a stranger: Vinted’s Buyer Protection page refunds an order that does not arrive, arrives damaged or is significantly not as described, reported within 2 days of delivery. For you it means the buyer sees your price plus the fee plus shipping, so a $20 sweater costs them roughly $21.70 plus shipping. Price with that total in mind, and compare it with Depop, Poshmark and eBay in where to sell clothes online. Also selling menswear on Grailed? Unlike Vinted, it charges sellers a commission: see Grailed’s fees at every price.

How do you set up your account and get paid?

The short answer

Sign up, add a profile photo and activate your Vinted Wallet (called Vinted Balance in the UK) before your first sale. Earnings show as pending, become available within 2 days of the order completing, and can be spent on Vinted or withdrawn to your bank in up to 5 business days.

Vinted’s Wallet page calls it “a secure wallet where your earnings from sold items are stored”, and the selling basics page says to activate it before your first sale. The buyer has 2 days after delivery to press “Everything is OK” or report an issue; if they do neither, the order completes on its own, per the getting paid page, and the money is available within 2 days.

Withdrawing to your bank

  • US: Wallet › Withdraw to bank account, in dollars, to an account with a routing number: $0.10 minimum, up to 5 business days (withdrawal page).
  • UK: in pounds, to a UK account with a sort code: £0.10 minimum, up to 5 business days (UK withdrawal page).
  • Both: a bank account can be used by only one Vinted account, only completed orders can be withdrawn, and an identity check from the payment provider pauses withdrawals until it is done.

How do you list an item on Vinted, step by step?

The short answer

Six steps, in the app or on the web: photos (up to 20), a title and description, category and brand, condition, price and parcel size. Vinted then reviews the listing, usually within a minute, sometimes up to 3 or 4 days.

The steps follow Vinted’s uploading an item step by step page (the UK version matches) and its describing an item page. You can list as many items as you like.

1. Photos: up to 20, the whole item first

“Upload clear photos of your item (up to 20 images).” The first must show the entire item, and flaws go in both the photos and the description. The full photo set is in the next section.

2. Title: brand, color, type, one detail

Vinted’s good example is “New pink Zara mini evening dress”; its bad one is “Very nice dress”. Brand, color, type and one thing that makes it different; no “nice”, “pretty” or “good”, and no hashtags or mentions of other brands, which get a listing removed under the catalog rules.

3. Description: measurements, materials, flaws

Measurements, any materials beyond the three the form allows, alterations such as repairs, missing parts such as a cut-out label, and every flaw: marks, stains, holes, tears, pilling, stretching, fading or odors. Take the measurements flat; measuring clothes for selling covers pit to pit, length and inseam.

4. Category, brand and size

Pick the category, then “select the brand your item is made by. If the item has no brand, select ‘No brand’.” Set the size from the label. No duplicate listings: for the same item in several sizes, make one listing that says how many you have, or photograph each size label.

5. Condition: the true one

“Select the true condition of the item you’re selling.” Grade down rather than up; a condition that matches the photos gives the buyer no reason to report an issue in the 2-day window.

6. Price and parcel size

“Insert a competitive price for your item”, then pick a parcel size; Vinted suggests one. Its parcel size page says to measure the packed parcel first: a carrier may refuse it or charge extra if it is too large, and neither size nor carrier can change once the buyer has paid.

Vinted photo tips: what do buyers expect to see?

The short answer

The whole item in the first photo, in daylight, then the back, the brand tag and size label, the care label, the details, every flaw, the measurements, and a photo of it worn. Vinted allows 20 photos; most listings need six to eight.

Vinted’s photo guide sets the rules: the entire item in the first picture, no collages, natural daylight, several angles, readable close-ups of labels and logos on branded items, every defect shown, and your own photos, not stock or found-online images. For privacy it suggests a hanger, a mannequin or a flat lay rather than your face.

PhotoWhy it sells the item
Whole item, frontYour first photo: the entire item, no collage.
BackPrints, pockets and wear often sit on the back.
Brand tag and size labelThe close-up Vinted asks for on branded items, and the one shoppers look for first.
Care labelThe materials. The form takes three; the label shows the rest.
DetailsButtons, zippers, embroidery, print, hardware.
Every flawA close-up of each mark, stain, hole, pull or fade, named in the description.
MeasurementsThe tape across the flat item: pit to pit, length, waist, inseam.
WornHow it sits on a body: modeled by you or a friend.

The flaw photo is the one sellers skip. Vinted’s Buyer Protection lets a buyer report an item as significantly not as described within 2 days of delivery; a close-up of the pull, listed with the flaws in the description, shows the buyer saw it before paying.

A pulled loop of yarn on a cream knit, shot close in daylight. On Vinted it goes in the photo set and in the description.

The method, with a phone and a window, is in how to photograph clothes to sell and the flat lay guide; a backdrop that looks the same on every listing is in the white background guide, and pixel sizes are in the product image size requirements.

How do you price items and bundles on Vinted?

The short answer

Search the brand and item, filter by condition, and price a little under what similar listings are asking, remembering the buyer pays your price plus the Buyer Protection fee plus shipping. Leave room for offers, and set a bundle discount so buyers take two or three pieces in one parcel.

With no selling fee, a price that moves an item this week beats one that sits for a month. Buyers can make offers, so a small margin over your floor lets you say yes. Unbranded basics sell on price, so list them low or bundle them. Selling more than your own closet? How to become a clothing reseller covers sourcing, sold comps and cross-listing.

Bundles

A buyer can put several of your items in one order, up to 100, per Vinted’s bundles page; it ships as one parcel with one label, and Vinted picks the parcel size from what is in it. Set a discount under Settings › Bundle discounts, per the discount page, with a percentage for each bundle size or “—” to skip one. Vinted’s line: “The bigger the discount, the more members will be interested in buying more than one item from you.”

How does shipping work on Vinted?

The short answer

The buyer picks a carrier and pays for shipping at checkout; you get a prepaid label or a QR code in your inbox, pack the item and send it within 5 business days using that label. The carriers and drop-off options depend on your country: USPS, FedEx and SpeedX in the US; Evri, InPost, DPD, Royal Mail, Relay, AnyVan and DHL Express in the UK.

The rules that catch new sellers

  • Use the Vinted label. “The prepaid Vinted-generated label must be used to send the order”; a different label cancels the order automatically, and the buyer’s carrier choice cannot be changed after the sale.
  • Five business days. Vinted’s UK selling basics page says an order not sent by then cancels on its own.
  • Keep proof. Compensation needs the Vinted label, proper packing and the carrier confirming the loss; keep the drop-off receipt or confirmation email until the order completes.
  • Offer more carriers. The UK postage page: “The more shipping options you offer, the faster your items are likely to sell.”

What is Item Verification for designer items?

The short answer

An optional paid service for designer listings that meet Vinted’s price, brand and category criteria. Eligible listings carry a diamond badge, the buyer pays the fee, the item goes to a verification hub before it goes to the buyer, and if it fails it comes back to you. It runs in the UK and 13 EU countries, not in the US.

On Vinted’s UK Item Verification page, a listing qualifies at £85 or more from an eligible brand, and the buyer pays £10 per item; if the item fails, the buyer is refunded in full. The US help page lists where it runs: the UK and 13 EU countries, not the US.

The badge is a selling point on a designer piece, so photograph what an expert will check: the brand tag, the serial or style number, the hardware, the stitching, and any receipt or dust bag you still have.

Are Bumps and Wardrobe Spotlight worth paying for?

The short answer

Both are paid extras, and neither is needed to sell. A Bump lifts one listing for 3 or 7 days; Showcase, formerly Wardrobe Spotlight, highlights up to 15 listings for 7 days and is not offered in the US. Prices show at checkout, not on the help pages.

Bump

Vinted’s Bump page (and the UK version) calls it “a paid feature you can add to any listing to increase your chance of selling the item.” The item shows higher in newsfeeds and search results for 3 or 7 consecutive days or until it sells, at a price set by the item’s price and the duration. One Bump per item at a time; during it you can lower the price but not raise it.

Wardrobe Spotlight (Showcase)

Vinted’s UK page describes Showcase, formerly Wardrobe Spotlight, as “a paid feature that can boost all of your listings’ visibility”: up to 15 listings highlighted for 7 days, with at least 5 items listed. The US page says it “is currently unavailable for members in the US.”

Vinted tips: the mistakes that stop items selling

The short answer

One photo and no tag, a vague title, a flaw left out, the wrong parcel size, a missed 5-day window, and a Wallet never activated: a listing scrolled past, an order canceled, or a payment that cannot arrive.

  • One photo, no brand tag. Use six to eight of the 20 photos, tag included (the photo set).
  • A title like “Very nice dress”, or other brands in hashtags. Write brand, color, type and one detail (listing step 2).
  • A flaw left out. A buyer can report an item significantly not as described within 2 days of delivery, so photograph the flaw and name it (the flaw photo).
  • The wrong parcel size. It cannot change after checkout, so measure the packed parcel first (listing step 6).
  • Shipping late, or with your own label. Either one cancels the order (the shipping rules).
  • No Wallet, no bank details. Activate the Wallet and add your bank before the first sale (account and payouts).

How do you add the worn photo buyers ask for?

The short answer

Take it yourself: a mirror photo with the phone held over your face, or a friend wearing the piece. Vinted’s catalog rules cover every photo in a listing, the worn one included, and it goes after the proof photos, because the whole item stays photo 1.

The catalog rules say photos “have to represent the item as it is - no image editing is allowed” and “have to be taken by you with the purpose of using the photos on Vinted”, with no stock photos, photos from ads or watermarked images. The photo guide suggests keeping your face out of photos, which the phone in a mirror shot does.

  • Daylight, full length. Stand by a window and show the whole piece on you, so the buyer sees where the hem and sleeves end; add one closer shot of the fit.
  • Your height and usual size in the description let a buyer compare the fit with their own.
  • The description still does the measuring. Pit to pit, length and waist stay in the text; the worn shot answers how the piece hangs.

Selling beyond Vinted: on-model photos for your own store and ads

The short answer

When you sell on your own store, on Instagram or through ads, the worn photo can be made from the flat, hanger or mannequin photo you already take. Photos made on a paid Tryly plan can be used on your store, in ads and on social media.

AI clothing photography starts from that photo: upload it, pick a model, and in about 15 seconds the same garment is shown worn. There are 500+ models to pick from, or use your own model or yourself, and the same model can wear a whole collection. Each photo is one credit, and the first 10 are free, no card. The next steps are in how to start an online boutique and Instagram for clothing brands.

The test that matters

Try it on your hardest garment first.

Sellers judge an AI photo tool on the piece most likely to go wrong: a print, a logo, sheer fabric or a detail that has to sit exactly right. Check the result at full size before you publish it. Here: a chunky cream rib-knit sweater worn with black trousers.
